DCYThe Jefferson Difference

When choosing the builder of your next boat, don’t just rely on clever marketing material or the gossip on the dock. Look closely at the company behind the product. Consider the quality of their product and their building standards . Ask yourself the right questions and don’t settle for superficial answers. After all, this is more than just a boat you are considering, it is a dream you are pursuing; a dream that will leave you with cherished memories & experiences for the rest of your life. We encourage you to choose carefully.

Below is a specific list of attributes that Jefferson offers their customers.

Family owned & operated since 1982. The founder of the company, Leon Shaw, was convinced that establishing a relationship with Hershine shipyard, a premiere Taiwanese boat builder, would allow him to produce a motoryacht of impeccable quality & value. Hershine is a family owned & operated shipyard & the mutual chemistry that existed between Jefferson and Hershine resulted in a winning combination. To date Jefferson and Hershine have sold over 500 newly built yachts, both production and semi-custom. Many of these sales were to repeat customers.

Leon’s son David has taken the helm of the company that operates out of Jeffersonville, Indiana. David has continued his father's commitment to the customer by taking a personal interest in each and every yacht built. This personal approach to dealing with the customer is in line with the business philosophy of Dream Catcher. That is why we were chosen as the exclusive California dealer for both the Jefferson & Marlago lines.

NMMA Certified.  National Marine Manufacturers Association, NMMA, is an organization consisting of marine product manufacturers. One of NMMA's primary goals is to ensure excellence in the boat building industry. One way that they accomplish this is to establish a voluntary standard for which builder’s can choose to subscribe.  Having your boat builder recognized as meeting NMMA requirements should be an important consideration in your selection process.

Jefferson has distinguished themselves from nearly every other Asian manufacturer by having NMMA certification. This commitment to build to NMMA standards, which incorporates nearly every ABYC recommendation, is a real testament to the Jefferson product and philosophy.

One of the requirements to retain the NMMA certification is to ensure that each customer receives a "Customer Satisfaction Survey" after the delivery of their vessel. This serves as an exceptionally valuable source of input for both builder & dealer regarding the overall purchase experience of the customer. Jefferson & Dream Catcher feel strongly about this type of input & use it to improve upon our existing practices.

US owned & operated company.  Jefferson Yachts is located & operated out of Jeffersonville, Indiana. They are a U.S. company and have a contractual relationship with their Asian builders. This is a real benefit to their customers. This arrangement provides the value & experience that the Taiwanese shipyards offer, with the peace of mind that your deposit money is being handled & accounted for by a U.S. corporation. This is not necessarily the case with many Asian builders.

There is also an intangible benefit to doing business with Midwestern folks.  We, at Dream Catcher discovered this when we first visited their Indiana headquarters. There is a sincerity and kind nature to everyone in the office that is refreshing and speaks of the traditional values and ethics that are commonplace in the Midwest. Purchasing a new yacht is an incredibly personal experience. You will certainly come to appreciate these common core values in working with Dream Catcher and Jefferson.
