The electrical system has been meticulously installed following ABYC, American Boat & Yacht Council, standards. This is an important consideration as your electrical system is clearly one of the most critical systems onboard. All wire is color-coded & tinned for maximum corrosion resistance. Terminations are properly crimped which is superior to soldered connections.

Fathom has raised the bar by including such standard equipment as the isolation
transformer, automatic AC power switch & the combitnation inverter chager.

  • Isolation Transformer:
The isolation transformer ensures a clean supply of power regardless of what is going on dockside, protecting your boat from surges and spikes. Of tremendous benefit is the fact that the isolation transformer mechanically “isolates” your boat from shore power, thus eliminating stray current corrosion that can devastate your underwater metallic fittings.
  • Automatic AC Selector:
The automatic AC selector eliminates the need to switch between shore power & genset by automatically selecting where the available AC is coming from, giving priority to the genset. Why prioritize the generator? To prevent tripping the shore side 30 amp breaker should you wish to operate the reverse cycle heat/air-conditioning or another significant load.
  • Combination Inverter Charger:
The combination inverter charger just makes sense onboard every vessel. The inverter provides AC power from your DC battery bank. In lieu of firing off the genset at anchor or underway, just utilize the inverter to make your cup of coffee, charge your cell phone or to watch a movie. When running the genset or plugged in to shore power the charger function automatically tops off the house bank to ensure maximum availability on your next trip away from the dock.

Plumbing

The plumbing system has been given the same attention to detail as the rest of the boat’s systems. 135 gallons of fresh water is carried aft in two water tanks.  Mechanical sight gauges are provided.

Another ingenious design feature is the use of a dump chest that discharges wastewater from the galley and head sink overboard via a below waterline discharge that eliminates thru-hulls along the side of the boat and unsightly hull streaks.

Fuel

400 gallons of fuel is carried in two aluminum saddle tanks located on either side of the engine room. These tanks were strategically positioned on the linear center of buoyancy. Why does this matter? Because the boats center of gravity will remain unaffected as the fuel tanks fluctuate between full & empty. Impressive foresight!

  • Racor Switchable Fuel Filter System:
The fuel system incorporates the tried & true Racor switchable fuel filter system that allows the complete changing of one filter while simultaneously running uninterrupted on the other filter. Transparent sight bowls allow you to visually inspect the cleanliness of the fuel passing through the filter.
  • Spare Fittings:
Both fuel tanks have spare fittings welded into them for the diligent owner who is interested in installing a fuel polishing/transfer system. For those who want maximum control of the quality & positioning of onboard fuel supply this is the ultimate way to go. Dream Catcher can work with you to specify the most appropriate system for your needs.

Engine

The Fathom 40 has been designed to utilize the Cummins QSB 5.9 liter 425 horsepower diesel engine. The new Quantum engine utilizes a high-pressure fuel delivery system. Some key benefits of this new design are cleaner burning, virtually no smoke at start-up, reduced vibration & improved fuel economy. While all of these benefits are important, the feature that you will certainly consider of greatest value will be the new Smart Craft display panel. This display provides real time information such as fuel burn, operating metrics and engine load values just to list a few. The fuel burn information can help you better identify your boat’s most efficient operating speeds thereby allowing you to maximize efficiency as conditions change.
